Little Brother, Can't let her go...from Seperate from Equal

Lesson 1, from Blockhuggerz III

Hip Hopper of the month: Jozeemo
Every month we feature a hip hopper and ask them ten questions about hip hop culture and life in general.

This month we feature Jozeemo. I, as a hip hopper, had a lot to ask... but we had to squeeze it into ten questions. Jozeemo is one of the fastest rising hip hop artist in N.C.! He has works with the likes of Nature...formally of THE FIRM, Little Brother, Khrysis of Justus League, Cockpit(yeah me),and recently Evidence. His story is quite a interesting one. He recently was released out of federal prison in February. Jozeemo was also part of a highly controversal documentary called ..'Welcome to Durham" which started a backlash of problems in the durham community..particular the rising gang violence in Durham. I sat down and talked to jozee..as his is affectionately called by his friends.....and talked life and Hip Hop!

Where have you been and what are you currently doing?I've been on vacation for about 2 years. Now I'm about to release the "Greazy" album and the Blockhuggerz Vol. 3 mixtape.

What is the current project?
Since BH3 and "Greazy" are done, I'm promoting like crazy.

Any tour dates coming?May 13th. Blockhuggerz release party. Check www.21strecords.com for more info. I have to lay it down for about a month to get knee surgery

Can you briefly explain your interpretation of the Welcome to Durham documentary and How did effect your life and others?Wow...........The guys meant well, but if I would have known the focus was gang life, I wouldn't have been in it. I'm not in a gang. It sort of gave me a black eye.

Best hip hop moment?Hearing my first song on WQOK K97.5

Worse Hip Hop Moment? My infamous vacation. I was arrested at my own show.

What is your definition of Hip Hop?One word. LIFE

Explain your experience in federal prison and your learning curve? The only thing I learned is that prison is the last place I want to be.

What are you rocking in your CD collection right now. I need at least five albums, if possible.Truth be told, all I listen to is TI, Young Jeezy, old Jay-Z albums, and Jozeemo.

Definition of hip hop and what it means to YOU?Like I said, hip hop is life. It's a way to tell the world about mine.

What up!

How are my favorite brethens?!!!! I'm cool, but I'm still piss off that the Panthers took that L! Let me find out where that wack ass kicker stay. Steve Smith and I going to kick Kasey and Tyrone Poole ass! LOL!!!! Anyway...shameless promo's! If you haven't been under a rock or something, B GIRL FESTIVAL III will blast off Friday Feb. 6th at The PourHouse! Featuring Remy Martin, Shelly B, Mother Nature, Luv, Clock Da Vigga, Miss Tish, and A Typical, this will be the biggest B Girl festival so far! For all of you who don't know Remy Martin, she is fire on the mic! Yeah........she phat too! LOL! Can't wait for it to pop off! Feb. 20th at the Berkeley Cafe, SPIN-A-THON! Here is the lineup..........DJ Bro Rabb, DJ Merlin, Dy-Nasty, DJ Soundmachine, DJ Sal Boogie, DJ Flash, and DJ Chela #1!!!!!! This is not a competition, but a showcase of the hottest DJ's in N.C.! All I got to say is.....WHAT A LINEUP! This is a ultimate hip hop show without question!!!! Big things popping off in our area and in the next few paragraphs I tell you why the love of Hip Hop changed 21st forever!

The best thing any artist can do to reset there goals in life is to look themselves in the mirror and disect their careers. TRUTHFULLY! I had to add that because you can't lie to yourself when determining the rest of your life. That is what 21st Records did as a whole. The hardest thing to deal with is telling people you love that you are not feeling them musically and professionally. REMEMBER....I didn't say personally. Why it may be hard, it is the right thing to do to further your company existence. You sometimes have to let go of grudges and reevaluate your principles. The code of life is MORALS, so you can't derive from those. That's when you draw the line. Saying this, the beef between Dy-nasty(97.5) and 21st Records is squashed! Now we still think 97.5 have alot of work to do to further local Hip Hop. The difference now is communication. We don't need each other, but we can do damage together. Connecting the underground to mainstream is what needed to get local artist to national recognition. Doggy Dog......don't get it F up with the running man. I got my guards up, However we are grown ass men and we need to stop tripping on each other. We kinda look like idiots. Local crews the same go to you. You have to get individuals in check within your cypher too. You still got MoFo's selling beats at dumb ass prices to people who are making power moves. Not realizing that at the end, if you show love, you prosper so much more. That's a big "if "though to those we don't treat HIP HOP with love! CHUURRRRCH! I "like" money, you "love" money! That is the difference in morals that can destroy any relationship. Lazy emcees please don't apply to any 21st shows. This is what you do. Don't come to our show and complain about being on a show. Stay home and write some dope ass rhymes and get your practice in. That's the realest advice you will ever get from me. That will satisfy both of us. Chuuuuurch! You see what 21st is trying to promote is Love for Hip Hop! We stay away from violence or physical confrontations. Brain power is prefered. Look....you all know how deep we roll and what we rolling with. I leave that alone. I just say this, be humble and wise.

In closing, I like to say peace and Happy Birthday to my Co-D Pauly Snubnoze! He is 5000 years old. LOL! Like always......(damn! please remember this!) Support local Hip Hop and will support you! Oh Yeah....I almost forgot. This is not a newsletter. We don't do those. This a commentary on Hip Hop and how we see it. So newsletters...Upgrade your substance! CHUUUURRRRCH!

Are backpacker's the new hater's?

What up!

Big Large to you all! I want to say thanks for all the love shown to me in the passing of my father. While it has been difficult, the love shown throughout our hip hop community has put a different perspective on things for me. Some of you never even met him and treated me like you did. I'm guessing you respect what I stand for in Hip Hop and Life. In turn, I respect you back for the love you showed for me and my family. Aight.......let's talk B Boyism!

Off the top, Shameless promo's! Saturday January 24th, 2004 @The Berkeley Cafe....Rapper's vs Poets II. Featuring Langston Fuze, Dasan, Nasty Fruit, Miss Tish, Spliff D, Womanstorm, Shelly B, Kenah Dayo and Freeze. Lyrics for your azz! If you miss the first one, you missed a banger! Redeem yourself and come through. Also B Girl Festval III will be Feb. 6th @ The Pourhouse in Raleigh. Last week, I left a clue on who would be the headliner. Well.....stratch that. I have someone even better. Next week....I let you know who. Go to www.21strecords.com for more details on upcoming shows.

Have Backpackers become the new haters of the rap world? First of all the term "backpack rap" is stupid. I understand what the movement is all about, but really man, "backpack rap" is on some "uppity shit". Let me explain to those who may not be familiar with these group of people. They generally walk around like hippies, rocking a backpack that usually contains a notebook, walkman, alcohol or water, weed or some hallucinate, and accessories. You probaly heard them speaking of purity of their Hip Hop. Most are vegetarians who will kill a human, if he lay hands on Bambi. They also are some of the most arrogant people you ever met. Believe me when I say they hate seeing Pauly and myself doing this street shit. It's just so "Ghetto". That's what they say. They use that term "ghetto" derogatory towards people who make it the best way they know how. Backpack rappers think they are the shit, don't they. They do shows with some of the most weirdo groups you ever heard of. They are strictly lyricists, which is good, but they are not good songwriters, that's bad. The beats are okay, but they all sound the same. The thing I really don't like about it is the lack of respect they have for the rap game. They have damage the game more than anybody. Why? They don't promote shit! Chhhuuurrch!!! Have you been to a "backpack show"? It looks like a bunch of college professors trying to bless the mic or it look like a bunch of dudes dressing up like their Flashdance 3 rehearsals going on. They ask me to put them on shows, but I don't want to see them on stage promoting the SAT exam. They also are on college radio now. Of course, I'm not talking about the Indy's, banger's, and blazers show with my brethens Rez, snub, aim, knotty, and myself. It's by far, the best show on radio. Morning and night. I'm talking about those Dj's out there who are so dry. They play that hippie shit with conviction. You know backpackers and underground were practically the same. What happen? When did underground become killer streets and backpack rap become hippieville, USA? I use to be a huge Black Moon fan. Still I like them, but not like I used to. I used to consider them backpack rap. I also consider them Underground. They bridged the gap between the two styles. Nobody have done that since. You never see 21st team up with backpackers because they don't want to be a part of our shows. We don't fit their image. They are exactly right. However we bring people to the shows. They don't. Club owners don't give a damn if you carry warm piss in a jar in your packback. They simply say f you ...pay me. My message to backpackers......come back home. You been wandering around with all that shit on your back and you have no ideal where you going. Chhhuuurrrch!

In closing, I would like you to tune in tonight to wknc 88.1 at 12 midnight to hear Saigon radio interview. He will talk about EVERYTHING! Including people from around hear that he met. Classic stuff. It's a few shows going on in the next few days, so go out and support them. Yeah....some of it is backpack shit..but support them for their effort. You wasn't doing anything anyway. Just don't let them tree huggers give you a hug. You know most of them PEANUT BUTTER BUTTS fans. REMEMBER....SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC AND IT WILL SUPPORT YOU!
BIg Large yourself!

What up!

Greetings brethens!!! How's everything been? As alway's I got to get the shameless promo's out the way! Saturday Dec. 13th at the Berkley Cafe...RAPPER'S VS POET'S! If you like the B girl festival's, you will enjoy the vibe! LEGACY, Kaze, Mother Nature, Honesty, Mekkah, Aqua, D Noble , and Dasan will be on this bill. So come out and support some of the best writers/lyricists in our area. While I'm at it....The last ANTI show of the year will be held Dec. 20th at THE POURHOUSE in Raleigh. This event will be the last public show for my CO- D, Pauly Snubnoze. He is hanging the mic cord up and focusing more of the business end of 21st Records. So....We will do this up big! Check this lineup! Pauly Snubnoze, Jozeemo, DRC, Kaze, Mother Nature, Keya Smith, Miss-E-Wreck, Mo' Money, Double, and Spliff D. 10 artists for $7! Dj REZ will be spinning! These are some of the best local hip hop shows anybody around here ever threw ! So show your Hip Hop and come through! Aight then.....Let's build!

Massive Big Large go out to Nature for coming through this week. I got to give another Big Large to Soul Dojo, Xtra-Infinit, 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Joe Scudda, Waffle House, Hennessy, Sticky-icky, Optimo, East Durham, RDU, and the numerous Baller's that came through. You made Nature visit very comfortable. He was very surprised about all the Love that was thrown. Next time we give y'all groupies some time. This time it was strictly B Boy business. The insight Nature gave us on the industry and some of your favorite rapper's and producer's, was priceless. He will be back soon...this time he will bringing QB to NC! Hopefully NORE will swing through next time. This was my first time producing for a "name" artist and I will say it was a great experience. Nature is picky when it comes to beats. I went through a ton of beats until he found the ones he wanted. This made me a little impatient at first, but when I told him about it he explained to me his reasons. Yes....I told him about it. I thought that he was "over the top" picky when he was going through 9th and Khrysis. They both had banger's that got turned down that I thought was absolute smashes! He told me that yeah...they were banger's..but not for his concept he is trying to do for his record. Yes...he is coming out with another record. For the record,9th and Khrysis...he has both of the cd's and will be writing to your joints. Keep that fire spitting! You know like I know, everybody in QB will be rocking to our beats! That's what really good!

Oh you dick riders! Some of you nigga's haven't said 2 words to me in 2 years and at the club you were "my boy". Here's some advice for a few of you. Network......don't talk to me or my 21st crew. You disgust me with your fakeness. We both don't like each other, so don't come to me with that BS. Next time....I'm releashing the goon's! To you emcee's out there. Nature can give a shit about some of you AWFUL rapper's that was on mic monday's the other night. He trying to get his career back popping. So when you rhyme, stop looking at the star of the show for approval. That's so lame. Tha'ts why so many of you can't be original. You look for approval from the wrong people. The person you need to look at is yourself. That should be your critic. Not another rapper. Lastly....There is nothing in this for Pauly and Cockpit! We made absolutely no money with Nature being down here. We really do this for the love! Of course the contact is what we look for, but what good is a contact if you don't use them right. The goal is to have alliance in NY to NC. While the south run hip hop right now, the mecca of music is still NY. So...we make sure the right people are in place to make certain power moves. Whether you take advantage of it, is on you. All and all, each one teach one brethen..chuuurrch!!!

Well...I leave y'all on this. This local hip hop thing is changing right in front of your eyes. The time is to get good alliances with everybody who is working hard. Anybody who came to Planet Rock this week..you were vouch for. Street and hip hop. That's real. 21st Records is not playing right now. Wack emcees and producer's need to be weeded out immediately. The bases are loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning and Barry Bonds is up to bat. So what you going to do......walk him? Support local hip hop and it will support you! See you Saturday!

Trav or Cockpit...same dude..

On the Hush......
Here is where I review what you probaly haven't heard , but need to have in your stash.

Jozeemo- Blockhuggerz Vol. 2-22 months!

I will first say...I'm being bias on this one. However..in a fair way. Jozeemo is a artist on 21st Records. He also stars in the controversial "Welcome to Durham" documentary. All this being said...he is a popular rapper in the N.C. rap scene. Last but not least...he is currently locked up in federal prison.

The mixtape...Blockhuggerz II, is the sequel of the Blockhuggerz I mixtape that came out in 2003! Blockhuggerz I basically was the blueprint around here for street mixtapes. It introduced alot of emcees to the streets of Durham. While promoting the mixtape and preparing for his first solo record...Greasy...he was arrested in June 2004 ...before his upcoming Blockhuggerz II was released. Jozeemo and I (cockpit) was working hard to get this project out by July 2004. With the arrest and conviction..the album/mixtape was put on hold. It has taken a year to fill in the gaps...but another classic mixtape has arisen from the King of Durham!

The mixtape starts off with me reading a letter from Jozeemo written from prison. That letter was to appear on Stinkzone.com...but we pulled the ideal and put it on the mixtape. I felt it would have more impact...and it did. The first track describes...Blockhuggerz II anthem...he gives a vivid rundown of life in East Durham and it's unfortunate surroundings. The mixtape then takes on a life of it's on. Jozeemo is on a majority of the tracks...however appearances by Spliff D, Jeffthro, Cannon, and Zig Zag...introduces us to up and coming dope emcees. I'm sure if Jozeemo was around to put out the final product..it would be slightly different...but the theme was right where he wanted it to be. The title...22 months was the sentence handed out to Jozeemo...thus...you can hear it in the emcee's throughout the album..that they miss their boy. The best cut..in my opinion..is Jesus saves. It done over the Kanye West...Jesus walks...and by far it was his best lyrics on the record. He sums up his feelings of rap, relationships, 21st Records, and family in 3 minutes. It was a perfect way to end the album! Blockhuggerz II is a mixture of hip hop, streets, and tribulations combined for one of the best mixtapes of the year!! Jozeemo is schedule to be released in December of this year and I can't wait to go back in the studio and bang out another instant classic. We have Greasy completed and we waiting for his release to drop the record. I will end this review with this.....some people got talent...he got IT....whatever that is. It has no definition ...you just know when you around something that is really good. Jozeemo...definitely has a talent that will bless the world...it on him to make sure that he also enjoys it.

ENJOY! Enjoy!
