There seems to be an obsession with mainstream media-created celebrities. The most interesting parts of hip-hop have always been the independent artists and people doing it themselves. There are a bunch of gay hip hop creators who have been putting stuff out there for some time. People need to forget about waiting for some closet case who's achieved success through not being truthful about themselves and pay attention to people who are creating honest music.

I think what makes the whole closet scenario exciting is that it would be such a great reality check. Hip Hop needs a Rob Halford to shake things up. i can't you that i believe the stories about rap
artist, however i can tell you that a lot of athlete's in my neighborhood were on the d.l..
if you were not in this lifestyle they would work

Yeah, I read that article when it came out also. I am the jewish gay white mc. Generally I am out during my shows, unless it is somewhere where I fear for my physical health, but then sometimes I still rap about being gay there also. My thoughts are that the likelihood of ANYONE (gay OR straight) "making it big" in this "so five minutes ago" world of entertainment are incredibly small, so I figure I might as well have fun with it and be myself while I'm at it.

When I do a song about being gay, and people--both gay *and* straight--come up to me afterwards to say "wow, I really loved that song", then it means so much more to me than when I do a non-sexual song and find out afterwards that people enjoyed it. I can't tell you how fulfilling it is when people tell me "I like you so much more as an artist now that I know you are gay," and that has happened to me many times.

I am 31 year old bisexual black man. I am in love with a woman who knows about my sexuality. In fact, I told her before we started dating. Our plight is not easy at all, but I am honest about my thinking and my actions across the board. I just want to encourage this dialogue because it is necessary. As a community we must be compassionate to DL brothers and encourage them to return that same compassion back to community by not partciapting in the unsafe, riduclous, self and other distructive behavior. Sexuality is clearly not a black and white issue for many people. It's actually FLUID for a whole bunch of us. When we deny the NATURAL existence of homosexuality by condemning it as some abnormality or spiritual corruption, we perpetuate the ignorance that is literally killing us off in droves. Homophobes are as much a part of the problem as DL men who engage in unsafe, ridiculous practices. In order to hinder the pandemic spread of HIV we can not alienate any member of the community. The answer is cleary NOT to hate on anybody, but rather to love and embrace every one. To those brothers who are dealing with this issue I send peace and love emphatically.. but I also encourage these brothers to respect themselves; their bodies, their peace of mind and the people they love. You know, I always found it interesting how people feel so threatened by homo sexual cultures and subcultures, be it the overall gay movements sstride for gay marriage or the DL mentality that pervades every facet of Hip Hop.

The idea that because someone fucks around with men they are womanly or less masculine is belied by the entire DL phenomenon, these are normal everyday thugs that fuck around with guys on the side or exclusively. They are just as hardcore as you and some are are even moreso, they wear the same chains and the same gear, but when they hit the club their checking your ass out instead of the bitches in the club. If you really think that the gay people wouldn't fight back if there was a "war" your wrong, and yoru thinking is very flawed. For two reasons 1) Your extrapolating the overly happy and effeminate males that comprise 10% of the total male populace that will admit to being gay and assuming that is all gay men. 2) Gay men, the ones that admit it, can do so because of status, in short they make more money than you do, they can hire bodyguards and pay people to fuck you up. Some of the most famous actors, producers, composers, and etc are gay, those peopel behind the scenes that make millions every day and don't give a damn what you think about them and their live in lover. These are the people that bankroll the gay movement and give it the momentum to force the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land to make buggery(sodomy) legal.

Before I go on a much longer rant, let me just say that what you need to do rather than spending your time thinking about what two men do behind closed doors, is worry about the greater problems of the black populace, being education and lack of representation in government, and try to do something about it.
