As an asian myself, I think that Jin is a credible EmCee and that all the media hype and national attention he got from winning the BET battles is good for the asian community. It just shows that popular culture is willing to accept an asain that is breaking out of the asian "model minority" stereotype. First of all, Jin wasn't the first asain artist to have a great impact on Hip-Hop culture. Look at turntablism, (for those of you who don't know your hip-hop roots, its the DJ who scratches) West Coast Asian DJ's Like Q-Bert, Babu, Shortcut, and D-Sytles elevated the artform of turntablism, Q-Bert had to retire from DMC Battles because he won 3 years straight. No one made a big deal about them being asian in a predominatly black culture. But people need to understand that being a turntablist artist and a mainstream MC are two different worlds. Why are they different worlds? Well it is because mainstream Hip-Hop is a Billion Dollar industry and labels are more likely to have a wack marketing scheme like bring up race to push an artist's product off the shelves. Every artist that has come up in the recent years were due 99% marketing and 1% skills. When the talented Big-Pun came out, people were pushing his puerto rican background and no one made an issue about it. When Big-Pun said he was puerto rican, people just said he had "Latin Pride." But when Jin makes the same comment that he is Chinesse, people mistake it as a marketing scheme instead of Jin having pride in his culture. To make my point, all I'm saying is that appreciate what Jin is bringing to the table, he has mastered his artform by proving himself by winning battles (A route most mainstream rappers don't even take anymore). First of all, you seem to have missed the fact that I am responding to a number of articles that have focused primarily on Jin's race. A lot of people seem to believe I am attacking Jin. If you re-read what I wrote, you will see there are no attacks on Jin. In fact, there is no attacking whatsoever. I am simply raising the issue of how the media has responded to Jin. If you would like me to refer you to some relevant articles that play up his race, I would be happy to do that.

1. First of all, it isn't BET and MTV playing up Jin's race, as much as newspapers such as the L.A. Times and the New York Times. If these two papers aren't in the upper-echelons of the media, then I don't know what is.

2. You make some convuluted points here. First of all, I'm not against talking about race in the proper context. In fact, I think given the history of race relations in the U.S., talking about race is important to dealing with the problem. Again, you act as if I am attacking Jin. Jin can think whatever he wants about this situation, but that doesn't change the fact that he will be USED by the media, just like every celebrity. This isn't about what Jin thinks... its about the media response. Got it?

3. Of course, racism is the belief that one race is superior. A simple definition doesn't do it justice. People write books on the intricacies of racism. And if you would like my thoughts on racism and what it is and how it works... I'm game.

Lyrics Born (formerly Asia Born) was the most prominent Asian emcee until now. Lyrics has been putting out records for about 10 years. But Jin, in only the last 6 months has become 10 times bigger without having put out a single record. I would argue this is a result of HYPE and not SKILL.

That said, Jin is a dope rapper and he gives the ladies something nice to look at.

And the reason I'm so sure about all this its cause i'm chinese and I speak cantonese.

4. And Jin didn't get his deal with Ruff Riderz cause he was chinese it was cause he can rap and I personally think that it's wrong for u guys to be sayin he only got it cause he's chinese and someone mention that he's using the fact that he's chinese in his raps and freestyles and the only reason he uses that fact that he's chinese in his freestyles is cause his opponents would always be using that against him and as far as him using him being chinese in his raps it probably cause he wants people to know that he's chinese and cause he's proud of being chinese.
