Simon Boswell Can't Rap
I'm working on the book, therefore no major entries for awhile.
Here's a link to an article by Jon, of hiphopanonymous.com fame.

It talks about the upcoming celebrity dis track by Ewan McGregor, Ray Winstone, and Kevin Spacey, produced by Simon Boswell. The song disses Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious and other dead rock stars. Supposedly it is a satire, but I don't see what is satirical about dissing dead people, especially very talented ones.

ditto. that's like poking fun of aliyah (spelling?) or big or pac. what's the purpose?

It's dissing them for wasting their lives and their talent, dying young and giving kids the mistaken idea that being a young good-looking corpse is cool. What's cool about OD-ing or pretending to be some hotshot gansta and getting hot shot for your trouble?

Simon... you are so wrong on so many levels. First, most of these artists didn't choose to die. Most of them were drug addicts, which is defined by the medical establishment as a disease. Second, you are making money off of their deaths, which makes you a parasite. Third, what the fuck is your problem? Why shouldn't an artist be free to live his life as he sees fit? Being famous doesn't necessarily equal a responsibility to be a positive role model. In fact, quite the contrary is true. If Cobain were a squeaky clean jerk-off like you... 50 million kids wouldn't have made him a hero.
Simon... just because you are one of those studio wank-offs who makes tracks for New Kids and Milli Vanilli doesn't mean you should dis artists who get famous because they have difficult and troubled lives. These artists are famous precisely because they are not like you.
I would be happy to elaborate on this further if you still don't get it.

Talk about being wrong on many levels. First, dont know where you got this idea of me producing that bizarre selection of idiots. Milli Vanilli? Not me guv... I'm a film composer, been in rehab (fuck the disease man, how about taking a bit of responsibility) and, i guess, well acquainted with fame at many levels. The rap in question is basically 2 fingers to Pete Townsends line 'hope i die before i get old.' Makes great sense when you're young. Its just that the older you get, the more precious life seems, and the rap is about what a WASTE it is for those artists to die so young. But in the culture, there's an assumption that there's some glory or romance in it. Same applies to many rap lyrics. Cool to have a gun and dis women and gays? What bollocks. Actually, the song is kind of funny in a dark way. When it comes down to it, you have to laugh at the absurdity of being a groovy pop star found 'hanging like a raincoat on the back of a door...' My song is actually life AFFIRMING. And, by the way, I'm a big fan of a lot of the pop stars I name.

Alright... hey I'll give you props for showing up again. I haven't even heard the song. And I can't imagine I will enjoy it. You see, when you have listened to as much hip hop as I have, you begin to see patterns. Remember the "Super Bowl Shuffle"? Go ahead... if the song is so dope, send me a copy and I'll post the audio for people to hear.
Rap is not like rock. If you make a corny rock song... nobody will notice. People expect a rock song to be wack. But if you make a rap song of any quality, somebody is going to hold you accountable. Right now, that person is me.
I wouldn't say you are so much wrong for championing a "take responsibility for yourself" ethos. I would say you are simply out of touch with the arena into which you have stepped. The fact is that you will not get a positive response from the hip hop community. It's that simple.
While you are moralizing over the deaths of Biggie and others, fans are CELEBRATING their LIVES. In other words, you are focusing on the negative aspects and shortcomings, while others are cherishing the ways those artists touched us in the first place. You might as well criticize the Capulets and the Montagues for bad coomunication.
But hey... prove me wrong. Send me the track and I will post it for people to hear.
