Got to go and cop this book. Powerful! I just finished it and I might be caught up in the emotion of the whole thing, but I think it's the best story I ever read. I have yet to fully fathom it's underlying meanings. It's too deep for words - it's about hip-hop, love, destiny, passion, metaphysics, revolution, understanding and confusion. You never know where you're going until you get there and even then you're like, "Where am I?"

"A Hip-Hop Story" by Heru Ptah

funny thing is, I don't read novels - this creation just called me from the shelf in the bookstore... glad I was listenin'... glad Heru is writin'... this was the truest fiction I ever layed my three eyes on.

Finished the book in a week. It's an easy read. You feel for the characters and ultimately this is a gauge for a decent novel. Heru takes it a step further and parallels his fiction to real (painful) events. We all know the stories in the media about the lifestyles of these rappers and Heru took it a step deeper. He created what could be real turmoils for some of the artists we have iconized. I appreciated seeing the people behind the hype and Heru did an excellent job of showing it.

PS: Truth be known, the rap verses were pretty weak.

Praises for Heru!!! I love this book.
I had never heard of you prior to reading this work, however I knew that you were a poet because your writing felt like poetry.

I have never taken down so many great words while reading a novel before, I mean I have learned over 22 new words---honestly!

The writing was clear, the story flowed easily, the characters seemed real and the plot was strong.

I like these kind of books. The ones that are about real life. I especially liked this one because of the freestylin and the incite into the rap game. Even though I loved the flows, they seemed a bit weak- but the book was good even though. I finished it in 3 days- it was hard to put down.

I usually don't like reading, but this book changed all of that. This book is the bomb. I only read a few pages and i neva wanna put it down. I can't wait to get to the ending so i can see how everything works out for both of the rappers. Well all I gotta say is Heru Ptah keep doin your thing. Thanx

I was recommended to read this book by my sister, and at first I thought, it wasn't much of a read, until i got caught up into the characters and by the middle I was hooked, so hooked that i didn't put it down until i finished it! I think what's so good about the book is the way Ptah describes each rapper and both striving for the same goal, it's a great book! 5/5!!! Is this Heru Ptah's first book or are there others!

I loved this book, it talks about things that are happening day to day and it allows you to have a brief insight on the music industry. The characters were so real and described in so much depth. It truly was and is a deep book, emotional and exiting book! I encourage anyone to read it, when they have a month free!!

I just finished this book and I loved it. I'll admit the ending had me all choked up. I am definitely going o see what else this author has written.

What's up ya'll? I absolutely LOVED this book. Being a rapper myself, I totally related to the drive and ambition that Flawless and Hannibal had. I hope to see a lot more from my man, Heru. The verses weren't weak if you read them in the context of the story and feel the emotions behind them. For a student of hip-hop, a student of literary works, or someone just wanting to read a good novel, I highly recommend A Hip-Hop Story. Fantastic job, Heru!
