Wake Up Show On MTV

Over the last two months, Sway has been absent from the Wake Up Show as much as he has been present. And the show has definitely suffered because of it. But it's hard to hate on Sway in light of the fact that he has been working on production of an MTV-version of the show.

Now, don't hold your breath... chances are the show won't last. Guest freestyles are the bread and butter of the Wake Up Show. That said, freestyles and live rapping don't usually lend themselves to the decidedly un-spontaneous and overproduced feel of a television broadcast (see my MTV Freestyle Battle post). And, of course, it definitely won't be live broadcasts. And the tendency of MTV to do lots of slick editing might stilt the show. Of course, you'd hope Sway's many absences from the radio broadcasts means he is hard at work counteracting the wack tendencies of MTV.

Now, I heard the Wake Up Show has been promised four pilot episodes, after which viewer response will determine if more will be shot. I'm not sure if it will be the entire crew (Rev, Sway, Tech, and Carmelita). And there has been almost no mention of the broadcasts on the radio-version of the Wake Up Show, (except for Tech mentioning -- quite awhile back -- that he was cynical about the prospects). My guess is that they aren't getting their hopes up for a full season. And I can't blame them. They already got dumped once.

Nonetheless, if you are a hardcore hip hop head, you will definitely want to tune in to the first four episodes, which will begin airing at these times (according to the MTV.com website). You should definitely confirm these dates and times.

Remember what happened with Will.i.am's show. I believe it was originally going to be a show with one hour of him and others freestyling/jamming. Then the show became 1/2 an hour with five minutes of jamming after videos and commercials. MTV has gotten too big for their own good.

It will be interesting to see how they balance interviews and freestyles with... I guess videos. Are there enough independent videos to fill a semi prime-time broadcast? I sure hope they got some b-boys up on there.

I saw that Will.i.am show. It was kinda weird.

Nice! First episode guests are Kanye West and Outkast. I just wish they could get Common up on their with Kanye. Those guys would flow nice together.

Hi Sway,
My name is Mia Richardson and I'm a current student at High Point High School in Beltsivile MD. I'm taking journalism and we're doing a project. We have to pick our favorite journalist and write about his\her contribution to the field.
Sway, you are my favorite journalist because you look like you love what you do, you make terrible situations turn out to be somehow, you make everything you do fun and interesting, but at the same time professional, and you discuss a wide range of topics. You inspire me and your'e a role model for younger people.
I need you to help me if your'e not tooo busy. Would you mind answering the attached question for my project? You can reply to hplaureate@yahoo.com
What are your contributions to your career?
What do enjoy most about your career? and
How canyou use your career to reach out to people to show them positive things in life?

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Mia Richardson

I don't think Sway is gonna get that message.

I would try wakeupshow.com. But, truth be told, I think he is extremely busy and unlikely to respond unless you send him a direct email or get in touch with Carmelita.
