How to be un Rapero

The good folks at Spanish media powerhouse, El Mundo, have done a big service for all hip hop "hispanoablantes" wannabes by creating this online manual for converting yourself into a full-fledged, fake-ass hip hopper.

El Mundo: Cómo Hacer Un Rapero

Here are the steps:

1. Get an etimological dictionary and a thesaurus.
2. Look at hot models who wear hip hop gear, like Victoria Spice.
3. Get the right clothes (Illmatic Designz, Red Rum, Zoo York, Capone, Ecko).
4. Read Heru Ptah's "Hip Hop Story", which is translated to "universo nigga".
5. Get some jewelry, preferably "White Trash Charms".
6. Learn to dance like Dani Pannullo (who?).
7. Look at graffiti, but don't do it yourself!
8. Last, but not least... go to the Stink Zone (no joke!).

If someone out there knows Spanish -- el mio chupa -- help us all out and translate a page or two. The writing is very amusing. Just go to the first page, translate it, and post the translation as a comment below. C'mon... I know there's a bunch of you out there who speak Spanish! Jon?! Unfortunately, the words are in pictures, which means Google can't translate the text. Hook us up!!

Peace to all hip hop heads worldwide!!
Long live the Placebo Syndrome!!

Eric - I know you and me don't get on, but here's me offering my condolences. it just so happens that one of the languages I speak is Spanish!

Holla back.

Oh yeah? Nice!

If you got the time... sure. Just pick an especially ridiculous one. That shouldn't be too hard.

'Sup?

Yeah, I'll do your translation for you, on one condition... you said on the Dizzee Rascal Vs Music page that you have been a long time supporter of UK hip hop. I've been to your UK message board, and it's alright, but a little difficult to get to. If you put a link to it under 'Hip Hop Issues' on the right it'll be greatly appreciated. I think it'll be a good idea if the info about UK hip hop could be as easily accessed as the other 'issues', since this is the one that will probably be of most importance in the coming years and months.

Let me know what you think.

Well, we got 30+ different regional pages/sites across North America and Europe.

I considered putting regional links in the weblog. But it takes up too much space and I want to keep weblog visitors in the weblog because most weblog visitors have no interest in the regional pages. On the main page of the site -- stinkzone.com -- there is a big bold link to the regional main page. And if you go to google and type in the name of a region, like "Los Angeles hip hop" or "UK hip hop"... usually the Stink Zone will come up near the top.

The main thing holding back the regional pages is not a lack of traffic. What holds it back is that I have exactly 0.00 amount of time to work on the regional pages. I already set up 10 HUGE sites for some of our biggest regions (and that took months of r&d). And getting my current editors up and running has been a real task.

Of course, I'm in this for the lonnnnggg haul and one of these days I'll get up a regional page for every damn place on earth, even if hip hop is long dead and gone.

Nuff respect lookin out for the home team!!

What I will let you do is write an article on UK hip hop and we can post it under "Hip Hop Issues".

How's that sound?

Posted by: eric on February 10, 2004 04:46 PM

Yeah, sounds good.

Can I write it on how the centre of the UK hip hop scene is going to move away from London to Birmingham? I've been involved in the creation of this scene for some time now and the degree of new talent in this area is amazing. It'll be really cool if I can write one to point hip hop fans, artists and critics to the city which is going to take over the scene in the near future.

Cheers mate.
