Executions on Pay-per-view
This is the first in a series of questions.
Should we have public executions on network TV, or cable and Pay-Per-View?
Should proceeds pay fines and/or go to victims' families?
Should it be the choice of the executee whether it is broadcast?
Should we have public humiliation instead?
Or should we just pardon them?
Post your response in a comment.

I'll make this short and sweet unless someone calls me to point on one of these answers, at which time I will expand:
1)Pay Per View
2)Yes
3)FUCK NO!
4)In addition to I think
5)You can't be fucking serious! Who are you? Bill Clinton in his last days in the Oval Office?

1.) These executions should be broadcast on pay-per-view;
2.) The proceeds should go to the victims' family members divided equally by the number of victims;
3.) This is America
4.) Public humiliation should be added to the arsenal of legal punishment in the United States because so many people nowadays value their egos so much
5.) No they should not be pardoned because the greater population has a bloodlust for people who commit crimes against other humans.
From what history has documented so far, the US Government is about 3/4 of the way away from repeating the downfall of the Egyptian and Roman governments to name two; and I honestly can't wait to see it happen. People see suffering as a plight that they should not have to endure, but what they do not realize is that without the suffering, there would be no happiness.
Seriously, think about this. If nothing bad ever happened to you, would you appreciate anything?
This is why most of the offspring of the rich turn out to be such snoody assholes. They have been exposed to limited amounts of pain and suffering, so they stress out over stupid crap like, "My car broke down on the side of the road (sobbing), and nobody stopped to help me for at least an hour (sniff), and when somebody did offer help, they would only do so if I would pay them (bursts into severe crying for about 30 seconds). What has this world come to?"
How severely twisted is this point of view? Imagine what would happen to them if they were mugged. They would go bonkers because they believe from a young age that they are better than everyone else and that this could never happen to them. A poor person considers a breakdown on the side of the road as a common occurence. So which of these people is better prepared for life?
Any questions or comments can be forwarded to ppeerryy@aol.com. Thank you for taking the time to reading the ravings of a lunatic/philosopher/underground hip-hopper.

Damien...
I see you are ruminating the poor/smart, rich/dumb issue. More questions coming soon.
Are you gonna answer #3 on this page?
And on #4, are you saying people shouldn't be pardoned, out of concern for their personal safety?
It's definitely interesting to see people down for public humiliation. It is ancient but not so common in democracies. Simply getting busted is a humiliating experience. I don't know if some extra humiliation on top of that would be helpful to the situation. It could also backfire and trigger sympathy for the perpetrator. It might also spawn cults of personality. It might be hard to humiliate the person. Embarassment would probably not be allowed to include physical torture, or even exposing private parts.
That said, people might actually go for restraining people in public with caging (a la Apocalypse Now) or even shackling people (a la America until the 1800s). Yeah, and then we could just arrange to have no security around them whatsoever and announce directions to the location on the front page of the newspaper. That could be interesting.

I forgot to finish number three, but I was attempting to say that "This is America, but if we gave the prisoner the choice of not having their execution broadcast on pay-per-view, they would choose not to have it broadcast so that the revenue would not go to the victims' families."
To expand on the pardoning issue, the greater population would see to it that these people were not pardoned, whether that meant killing them on the streets or taking the issue to the Supreme Court. Basically, if someone were pardoned, it might turn a non-criminal type into a murderer.
In foresight, I do understand that some people would be difficult to embarass, like myself, but the main reason I proposed the embarassment as punishment is because nowadays there are so many people who value their egos above everything else, even their own families. I very much disagree with this train of thought and at the time, I was bashing the entire concept of ego without completely thinking about the feasibility of embarassment as punishment.
I have a question for you, Eric. What do you mean when you say that public embarassment "might also spawn cults of personality"? I only ask because I do not understand what you mean at all. Thank you for your time.

I simply cannot believe these questions are being discussed. Executions on TV? You shouldn't have any executions at all. They are not worthy of a country that claims to be civilised. There are far too many stories of helpless indigent defendants defended by half drunk tax lawyers and wrapped up and condemned in half an hour.
America is an abominable country and Americans are despised wherever they go. This is one reason why.

We are also despised because everyone is playerhating these days. Face it, we have more fun than everyone else. We have more cool stuff, better music, and better looking women. We are the greatest country in the world! And everyone wants to come live here. Who can blame them? These are more reasons why we are despised wherever we go.

Honestly I don't think that anything should be on television. I think that an execution should just be for the family to watch. I think that it's just wrong to let millions of other people watch someone die on television. I believe that there should be executions because yes, they do deserve to be killed if they killed someone else, but the whole world should not be able to see it happen. I personally think that it's an embarassment and very sad that a family is going to let millions of people just sit there and watch their son or daughter being killed on television in every wrong way. Executions are alright but please do not but them on television.

Hey this is wha t i think.
1. Absoultly neither options because i think it sick and wrong and i totaly do not agree on any of this shit. Okay? Have a problem?
2. If this sick and disgusting nonsense becomes legal, them yes, i think that the money should be given to the victims.
3. I don't think so because, I don't think it should bew broad casted in the first place. But ya know, if this becomes legal then yea, it's America and it's his choice.
4. Yea, its better then death. Killing is wrong in the first place.
5.No we shouldnt just pardon them, life in jail, life in prison, humilation. It all good enough.
