J-Rocc Mixes
It's funny how things change. Few people seem to have noticed that 2004 is a most satisfying year for hip hop. These ARE the good old days. Don't wait to appreciate! Sava the flava!
The crazy thing is that my hometurf, Southern California, is somehow the epicenter of a genuine old-time-style rap revival. Rappers from across the country recognize the Fantastic Four as true superheroes and make the pilgrimage to Friday Night Flavas a religious part of the rap game.
This particular show -- the usual three hours in length -- consists almost exclusively of exclusives, world premieres, new releases, and soon-to-be-released releases.
For the record books, I am going to speculate that if you took any single broadcast of Red Alert, Wake Up Show, or Stretch & Bob... this show right here would stand the test of time and outshine even the finest of the fine. And I'm not making a competitive coastal or regional thing out of this. There is equal representation of Northeast, Midwest, and Outwest (sorry Dirty South... you still got some ketchin up to do). Basically we can all thank ourselves for making this happen.
Anyway, sit back and enjoy three straight hours of J-Rocc on the wicky wickies, along with Mr. Choc and Truly Odd on master controls. C-Minus was busy breaking into a house. He'll be back next week.

Siiiiiick. God damn, you are my fuckin hero.

Aw yeeaw... thanks for the link. This was a particularly good show. It gets better and better. Exclusives galore. Two weeks ago they had Pete Rock in the mix (juggling like a madman).
If you are down with J-Rocc's mixing, his "Sex Machine Today"... I highly recommend it. I think it is available through BeatJunkies.com and I know Fat Beats has it.

Sex Machine Today is a *constant* classic around my place. And Live At the Sex Machine, and Syndromes (crazy sick), and all of the Now That's What I Call Hip Hop's, and everything else by the funky prez that I can get my hands on.
That cat is living genius. Thanks again for posting that show up. You have any details for the date, venue, and/or how it was recorded?
Easy.

wow..u actually shut down the Jin board..good stuff..nothin good was comin out anyway..and the topic was dead..Jin's career is a wash already..u were right...biis out

Nobu... hey good to see you back! Yeah, the Jin page simply reached a point of diminishing returns. I'll tolerate just about anything, but once people won't answer questions or respond to each other... what's the point? All I wanted was for them to tell me how old they were. And because they were mostly little kids... well, I basically blew up their spot.
DK... the audio I posted is last Friday's broadcast of Friday Night Flavas on Power 106. Where do you live? I would tell you the source of the recording, but I wouldn't want to incriminate myself ;) ;) ;) And I have more, if you wanna do some trading. Although I still need to get a better recording setup.
I agree about J-Rocc. He is extremely underappreciated. I believe there is no other DJ who even comes close. And the irony is that he is usually holding back, because if he had his way he would throw in a lot more random stuff (breaks, reggae, weird stuff, etc). He used to do a lot more mixing of original breaks, etc with the new hip hop songs. He used to do that a lot more on FNF broadcasts. But now they are so big and get so many exclusives... there just isn't time. Oh well... trade offs. Anyway, good to make contact with another J-Rocc fan! Let's definitely do some trading. My email is eric(ata)stinkzone(dottta)com.
