The Nation: Election 2004
The Nation: "A Stolen Election?" by David Corn
David Corn, like myself, insists upon seeing credible evidence before declaring election fraud. David's logic is that if no credible evidence of election fraud emerges... we should consider the election fair. Unfortunately, this same logic could be used to suggest that we don't know if the election was legitimate unless we have evidence that it WASN'T rigged.
The bottom line: we don't know if we had a fair election or a fraud without evidence to support EITHER assertion. Without proving one of these assertions, we can' know for sure. Simply NOT proving the fraud doesn't necessarily mean it was a legit election.
Clearly, we need a system by which voters can confirm their votes after the election. If a ballot is contested... the voter should be able to confirm the vote via database or paper trail. We aren't talking rocket science... just computer science.
