Lurking beneath the pornogothic facade of Necro the artist is a steady and methodical mayhem. But he's not without a sense of humor. His music is deadly serious: the sort of sadistic shit you'd expect from death metal. No surprise, Necro spent some of his formative years training to be a guitar virtuoso. Fortunately, Necro found a calling in hip hop. His patented blend of all things bad and bawdy has earned him a legion of fans and allies. Is he the GG Allin of rap? Does he have political ambitions? Can he solve the Israeli question? Is he the "White Quincy Jones"? All this will be revealed in our candid email interview, conducted in October 2003.
Aside from a sly sense of humor, what impresses me most about Necro is how he handles his business. Sure, he raps and makes his own beats, and handles the front office... but what distinguishes him from other self-sufficient artists is tenacity and vision. Many artists talk about their big plans... but Necro simply makes them happen. While most independent artists struggle to put out a few albums, Necro just finished his third or fourth movie project. And his directorial porn debut proves he is a true renaissance man. |

A lot of people don't know this... but you basically wrote the book on how to stay independent in the hip hop game. How has business been over the years? I didnt write the book, maybe a chapter, business is getting good, I have been paying dues

What other artists have you worked with, both on the music-tip as well as the business side of things? I would imagine you have showed the ropes to a few people. I work with my peeps, ILL BiLL, Mr. Hyde, Sabac, Goretex, I havent blown up yet, so I aint here to show the ropes to anyone, but I always give advice to anyone that asks me, and 100's have asked me
When you first started out, how did you promote/distribute your music? The first record i dropped was distrbiuted by FatBeats, before that I just rapped on live radio
Are your fans spread out, or are they limited to certain areas? They are spread out all over earth, but my most fans would be in NY, Cali, Canada, and certain big markets, but I have fans in every state and country, but not as much as the big markets
When I look at your artwork, it reminds me of all the heavy metal bands we listened to in the mid-1980s. It also reminds me of Pushead and other graphic artists. Who does your artwork? Do you generally do your vocals in one take, of you do record them in bits and pieces? I do both on different tracks, it all depends on the song and the verse
Where have you done shows? NY, Canada, Chicago, not many other spots, flew to Wisconsin but the promoter fucked up and noone came, we still got paid our money though, I'll be touring soon, cuz now I can book my own shit, before I couldnt get a booking agent
Where do you get the best crowd response? NY and Canada were sick

Tell us about your movie career, where it's been and where it's going. I have been thinking about writing a new screenplay, I got ideas, but I need money, so I might have to wait till Im paid
Would you like to transition from rhyming and making beats to doing movies full-time? I just wanna do art fulltime but with large budgets because I am limited to do the shit I wanna do, I have to worry about making money now to fund my sick ideas, and if I had all the money allready, I could hire more people to do some of the shit I dont wanna do, so soon things will be how I want them
Will you be the "White Quincy Jones"? The shit I will accomplish Quincy would never do, so no, I will be an original legend, but shout out to Quincy Jones because he is awesome
If Necro had his own branch of government, what would it do? hmmmmm now u wanna get deep, this is a question that is deep, because you cant just answer it with any answer, cuz government to me is a secret, and how can I say I would want a branch in something I dont fully understand, I would think I would need to be rich enough first to be able to enter secret government to then make a change, but who knows if I wouldnt be brainwashed by then, maybe they have Men In Black eyeball zappers, so I cant answer that effectively, very soon I will be studying shit like this and can give a better answer possibly then
How to solve the Middle East situation? neither side really wants peace, its easy, stop fighting, but nobody wants to compromise, so when 2 sides are both stubborn, it will last until.....................................................
