Alright, no silly shit this month. We got some real dope singles here. Topping my 10 is a debut b-side "2 O'Clock Groove" by Illin' P. He's known for his ragga style, but as you can hear he's better than most when it comes to straight-ahead hip hop. Be sure to check the other b-side sure shot, "Doodat... Again". Next up is Tame One from Artifacts, who kicks some happy-go-lucky lyrics over a ridiculously clever beat on "The Moment I Feared", a playful track that really stands out from all the usual seriousness and posturing.
Kazi kicks some serious West Coast flavor over a moody beat on a track that is far from "Average". In case you were wondering when we were gonna get some drum and bass up here... T-Power and Blade make an unusually successful hiphop/D&B collaboration on "Dangerous".
The Neptunes... must admit I'm riding their inseams. But how could I possibly front on T.I.'s "Serious" b-boy pop-locking material? And speaking of B-Boys... we've got the multi-lingual B-Boy Genre crew showing just what it takes to get ahead in the game... "Hard Work". And if you can't relate, maybe Chikara from Japan can translate.
Rasco, ED O.G., and Reks deliver a solid performance over a killer remix of "Gunz Still Hot". Next up, Philly's own Beanie Sigel provides the necessary intensity to match an incredibly HOT beat from Just Blaze. And in case you think I care about my "underground" reputation... I'm gonna put Shyne's "Bad Boy" next because EZ Elpee flips a classic JA rhythm oh so lovely.
Last and least is Pep Love's "Warrior Poet", which gives us a taste of some serious future flavor, but never quite packs a full punch. Maybe next time.
